Always the turn of the Tomato…

Last week tomatoes were high profile thanks to it being British Tomato week – and this week they were chosen as the plant to get London growing. 100,000 tomato seedlings were given away in Trafalgar Square as part of the 2012 Capital Growth initiative. Whilst the seedlings look a little small – I do like the tomato paper cups/flower pots! And of course being the tomato geek I am – I’d love to know the variety. What do we think – Moneymaker? Gardeners Delight? Alicante? Something else?  I hope for those who carried their seedling all the way home, dreaming of homegrown tomatoes to come – that if any of my guesses are correct – let it be Gardeners Delight…

And then here is the humble tomato centre stage – as a diplomatic and political symbol – about to be popped into some very powerful mouths…however as always – no matter what the background or occasion – there’s something about hanging out with tomatoes that always makes people smile!
