Belriccio and Santorage Ripening

by Sally on August 4, 2010

The move to red/orange/yellow/black – delete as appropriate to variety – continues.

Today’s ripening nicely pair are 2 of 5 the Sutton’s Grafted varieties I’m growing - Belriccio and Santorage. A beefsteak and a mini plum. I always enjoy the colour reveals. First comes the shape, second the colour, third the taste. In this way a tomato’s character slowly makes itself known.

Here’s the Belriccio, at the slow to blush stage of ripening:

And Santorage. With a way-hey-hey truss formation. Something about it reminded me of the pictures of screaming roller coaster riders, as they go over the top and hurtle down the side of the track. And looking a little green around the gills when they get to the bottom!
