The moment when a little green pea appears – a little green ball which will later show its true colours as a ripe, juicy tomato. So maybe a Bullseye moment. Or a whistle blowing moment or even, being of the moment, a vuvuzela buzzing moment.
This is the pair of Gardeners Delight, which have just demonstrated plant naming isn’t the least bit fanciful.

That’s a good sign, the first fruit of the season is always special. You’ve obviously chosen the right spot for them. I hope your other plants aren’t jealously eye-ing up the G.D. sun-lounger!
The Clone’s embryonic fruits are coming along nicely, and most of the others are in flower. Its fruits have light green spots on their shoulders which will turn yellow upon ripening – are yours the same? Maybe I have a ‘freckled’ variation. I’m waiting to see if the seeds I’ve grown from last year’s crop are the same as the original seeds, which came from T&M.
Isn’t it just the best moment when you see your first little tomatoes? I just spotted mine a few days ago (most of mine are in the budding phase, or even far from it due to our crappy spring weather so far this year), and I ran in the house jumping for joy.
I think the Clone must have freckles from the sun ! I’ve peered at mine ( hoping to make them blush into ripening) but nothing that I could count as light green spots – maybe they need to be a tiny bit more than pea size ? There was another tiny one added on from yesterday. I think the back fence possibly does get the most sun – and then the right hand fence. I still need to follow Alan Titchmarsh’s advice and sit and chart the sun over the course of a day….
Hello
Thank you for stopping by and getting in touch. It is the best moment ! And completely out of proportion to the size of the event ! 1 or 2 small green bumpettes ! But the jolt they give you when you first see them… it’s like… how did that happen. How did that go from yellow flower to little green fruit seemingly by sleight of hand !
