I am sure they ought to have their own TV show. Standard, red varieties, chosen for functionality; their names have a period drama twist when linked.
Ferline was sown from seed and chosen as it offers some resistance to blight. Elegance was a Sutton’s Grafted Plant.
Ferline didn’t get blight – but then not every variety or plant did. So will I grow it again ? No but it’s a plenty good enough variety to give garden room if you want to fight the blight upfront. But, I will try another blight resistant variety in its place.
Elegance. Good, heavy fruit. What I’d call a really useful tomato. And although expensive as it is only avaliable as a pot ready plant – in packs of 3 or a mixed pack, I’d still favour it over those other, all too easy to fall back on standards – Moneymaker and Alicante. Will I grow it again ? I’d like to think there were lots of productive, red, medium to standard varieties out there, just waiting to be tried, so in the quest for the new – no.
