When I left on Friday for a long weekend, everything in the garden was resolutely green. This morning all seemed well and …..well green. Until I got to this plant, the Tumbler that has been first for flowers, first for fruit and now first for RED !
I just saved myself from a personal first of self impalation on a bamboo stick , due to jumping backwards in shock ( it’s difficult to move any distance without coming across a bamboo stick) at the sight of this truss turning red.
A tiny shrunken seed shaken out of its packet and popped into compost and now 18 weeks later a beautiful red tomato jewel.
Total Tomato Happiness !

Fantastic, I can’t wait. At the moment I’ve lots of green fruit, the beefsteak variety look really impressive.
I’ve stopped all my plants now and taken a leaf out of your book (and off my plants) and given them a good pruning – I had allowed them to ‘ramble’ too much which nearly led to disaster…..
It was windy the other week and 2 plants suffered split branches, I thought I’d lost the fruit they were bearing but undeterred I hoisted them back into place with some string and they’ve not skipped a beat. Hardy little blighters!
Hello Nick,
It felt like such milestone to spot the first red tomato. With a few red ones now appearing it’s beginning to be real, I might actually get to eat a tomato I’ve grown from seed – amazing !
Weather has been very trying; I’ve escaped split branches but have had pots blow over, luckily no damage.
Would be great to hear when you ‘turn red’ !
