This week is most definitely a coming of age week; it’s been the week of eating.
I’ve been picking every other day. Sungold, Tumbler, Garden Pearl, Gardeners Delight, Tigerella, Darby Stripe and Cream Sausage have all been picked and enjoyed.
Eagerly awaited still are Alicante, Moneymaker, Carbon, Black Cherry, Roma and Red Robin.
I decided not to spray against blight in the end. An experienced grower’s advice was that spraying needs to take place early in the season and so undecided as I was that helped me make up my mind. Fingers crossed I am still ok. I know many home gardeners haven’t been as lucky.
We had a couple of days of really good sun which helped move things along. I am hoping for more this week to get the bigger varieties turning. And Red Robin which although small has remained stubbornly green, it looks as if that might be about to change.
