If I’d taken this photo an hour later it would have been in darkness. Temperatures are falling and days growing shorter.
The remaining few plants have survived one frosty night .
The only bright eyed and bushy tailed going on’s at present are the squirrels. After a summer of tomatoes on tap I’m not surprised. It’d be nice to think they’d show their appreciation by not digging up bulbs….
The clocks go back this weekend; the extra hour seems perfect for investing in hope for next spring.
Choose the right varieties and onions, shallots, garlic and broad bean can all be planted now in discarded tomato pots.
- Shallot variety: Echalote Grise
- Onion Sets: White Snowball, Electric, Radar
- Broad Bean: Aquadulce ( longpod ), The Sutton ( dwarf variety)
A broad bean risotto in waiting !
