Jersey Sunrise, Plumpton King, Sioux.

by Sally on January 6, 2011

Jersey Sunrise: If you ate Golden Nuggets for breakfast and Butterscotch Angel Delight for pudding (after the ritual ‘wait-and-see-pudding’ routine) then it’s likely the tomatoes you consumed were from Jersey – or Guernsey. Which I seem to remember also had a Tomato Museum. Nice to see a “live” exhibit; they’ve aged better than the other 2!

Plumpton King: The information I can find on this is that it was a 1940s UK tomato

Sioux: And that this was a 194os tomato from the US – from the University of Nebraska.

I do like the different approaches to naming. The UK tomato sounds like odds on for the 3.10 at Kempton and the US one like bareback, brideless prairie gallops.
