A while ago I marked red Hs on the calendar, to represent H days, the dates by which different varieties should be ready to harvest and eat.
Which made it on time?
Tumbler and Sungold.
Garden Pearl, due August 25th has also been picked and eaten which confirms my thought about getting the data wrong but I’m not complaining!
Tigerella’s H is marked as the 25th July. It’s just got colour.
Red Robin. H, also the 25th July. So far it’s not living up to its name. The fruit remain the darkest of glossiest green. Truth be told, I’m not taken with it. Somehow the plants are too cabbage like. However it has lots of fruit. So all will depend on how tasty it turns out.
Gardeners Delight’s H day is today – and here it is, living up to name and expectations.
As well as my own pickings I enjoy vegetable shows and exhibitions. The straightness of the runner beans, the long tapering parsnips, the neatly tied onions and seeing which entries are awarded that first prize red card.
If you’re the same, make sure you visit Daphne’s Dandelions on Mondays for Harvest Monday. An inspiring opportunity to see what’s being cut and picked from different plots.
I’m jealous of all the tomatoes passing through the kitchen over at Annie’s Kitchen Garden (and jealous of Annie, a very cute under gardener although she’s probably boss !).
My crop size is better suited to Cheryl’s way of measuring things, number of items rather than weight. Plus you can arrange them into vegetable portraits!
Veg Heaven has a good tomato gallery including Lemon Tree which I have come across several times and have mentally added to next year’s menu.
However as I was wrong on my reading of this week’s weather ( yesterdays words ‘ a bit brighter’ were drowned out by the sound of this morning’s rain) I need to first ensure I get to enjoy this year’s crop.

Thank you for the lovely comments on my blog! I adore tomatoes and can’t wait to read more!!
Hello,
Thank you for getting in touch and coming over to have a look.
I think in cost per tomato, at the moment, mine may count as an indulgence rather than frugal! but that will change the more I pick and I’ve all the pots etc now for next year.
And the enjoyment factor of growing as well as eating has been lovely. It’s been a real pleasure to grow something from scratch.
