More Baffling Bright Ideas

by Sally on December 10, 2010

My favourite part of this article is when the company spokesperson declares “we checked levels of tomato consumption in Europe and they’re fairly low“. Now, to be fair, I have no idea where their point of comparision on the spinning globe might be – and whether their checks include the UK – but I like to think that we get thro’ a fair amount of tomatoes between us. Perhaps even, on high days and holidays, the outrageous scoffing of 3 to 4 a day .

Anyway if you hadn’t already sussed where they’re coming from – it’s to let you know that ‘Fruitflow’ (rings a bell from earlier in the year?), extracted from the very wonderful tomato has “platelet smoothing” capabilities which “contribute to heathly blood flow”.

I wonder how it is at smoothing ruffled feathers ?

That person did not quite get it right. You would not be able to eat tomatoes fast enough to achieve the required effect. The “science” of this is available on the internet if you are interested.

That article baffled me too, specifically:
““It’s also about convenience – since most people don’t eat tomatoes during breakfast – the ingredient starts to work within 1.5 hrs, and works for up to 18 hours, and in a drink form it’s very suitable for consumption before, say, a long-haul flight.”

There’s no qualification of ‘most people’, and how would they know anyway? I guess they’d look at surveys and sales figures.

I wonder as well whether they took the home-growers into account; since home production must account for a sizable percentage of UK tomato consumption, at least during the season.

I must remember to take my tomatoes before jetting off on holiday next year… :-)

Hello. Thank you for stopping by and getting in touch . So it’s the speed not the number of tomatoes ! Now of course the issue is I’m all like – how many, how fast – is there a Guiness Book of Record reading for speed of tomato consumption ? – however I shall calm down and just be grateful that as far as I know, when it comes to my health, all is well in the platelet department and so I count myself lucky, both for that fact and for being able to carry on enjoying my tomatoes in a leisurely fashion in their original packaging !

If only I actually liked tomato juice – this could all be taken as a Bloody Mary In-flight fest waiting to happen !

So on the to-take-with-me-list…. that’s Tea Bags…plus Tomatoes….I think Ive just found the perfect excuse never to do Gatwick at dawn again !
