More Seed Catalogues

Edwin Tucker Seeds

And then in today’s post the next seed catalogue. They’re like ripening tomatoes, when one goes red, the rest all quickly follow.

This one, from Edwin Tucker. Alicante and Tigerella were the seeds I bought from them this this year.

I’d grow Tigerella again. It’s a nice size fruit and pretty.

Alicante I ‘m not so sure . There’s nothing amiss with it but because there are so many intriguing tomatoes to try, to grow a red standard seems a little unadventurous.

After reading the Kings catalogue I was interested to see where Tuckers stood on the trickiness or otherwise of tomatoes.  Greenhouse grown can mean a ‘ myriad of problems possible‘ but outdoors are ‘ less prone to disease‘.

They also stock a selection of around 30 tomato seed varieties, 10 of these denoted as organic.  The catalogue is organised by the colour of the variety:

  • Red, Yellow Orange, Pink Purple Black, Green, White and Multicoloured.

They also stock a tomatillo variety – Tomatillo Violet which produces small violet fruit.

Something I didn’t know is there is no VAT on vegetable seeds.

And unique ( I would think ) to Tuckers is that as well as all the usual methods they still accept payment in Postal Orders and Postage Stamps.

And another lovely idea, they run a prize photography competition for produce grown with their seed.

Check out the handsome Moneymakers , making a good case for growing red standards!
