No Cook Sunday

by Sally on November 14, 2010

Not  much is happening in the kitchen at the moment.  It’s all a very lazy ‘on-toast’ fest. Entry level: marmite…; up-a-level: cheese on….

One welcome elevation – pasta and green beans, inelegantly lava’d with home-made tomato sauce, pickaxe’d out of the freezer. Well worth all that chopping, simmering and batching!

But there will be reasons to return to the stove – and this recipe from Nigel Slater caught my eye as being a possible one.

Pumpkin, tomato and cannellini soup.

He suggests using butternut squash and although boldly starts by asserting the cook use dried beans (recipes which involve the word ‘overnight’ unless followed by ‘magically’ tend to lose me), he does then relent and allow for the use of tinned. Phew – that makes the gap between ‘toasting’ and ‘cooking’ less of a chasm to overcome.

And I don’t have any green tomatoes – but for anyone who does – I came across a recipe for Green Tomato Marmalade. I’ve no idea what Paddington would have to say about that…but if he’s still going off-brand and through his experimental stage…then there’s plenty of Marmite on toast here to be had instead.
