Squids In !

by Sally on October 24, 2010

In the days before celebrity, in the days of  stars….how high in the firmament a star or was – or perhaps more accurately how far removed from planet earth they were, could be revealed by an interviewer asking them for their starry stab at naming the price of a pint of milk or loaf of bread. Oh the joy of the myriad of answers !

Today I’d like to share my novice fish-counter equivalent with you….how much the price of a squid sac ? A question which if asked of me a  few days ago, I’d have floundered to answer. I don’t know if part of the price-point drill was ever to reveal to the famous guessers the actual price of the groceries in question (and even if revealed if it would have meant anything) but I can now say with confidence and some surprise that one squid sac will set you back a very reasonable 50p.

And what to do with this sac of prettily-priced potential when you get it home ? Stuff it. Using this recipe for Baked Squid with Chilli Tomato Sauce.

The only thing I would add is to start making the tomato sauce first,  it can be cooking away whilst you then make the squid stuffing. And that when it’s cooking in the oven, squid gives off a funny smell that I didn’t much care for. But apart from that I’d highly recommend adding this to your things to do with tomatoes list !

Wow … squid … that’s rather exciting and looks delicious. I like the sound of the other recipes on Nigel’s list too.

I know ! I feel there ought to be some Brownie Guide badge kind of thing – for Squid cooking ! Although having said that it’s not difficult at all – it just seems an exotic thing to cook !
