Unused seeds ready to be store in the fridge
‘I’m going to grow my own tomatoes this year’. It sounded simple enough.
All I had to do was decide which ones.
However I was quickly overwhelmed. The choice was greater than I’d been anticipating and my lack of knowledge on the specifics of tomato growing wasn’t helping.
Cordon Indeterminate, Resistant to TMV, F1 Hybrid. Help !!
So instead of going with ‘what do I want to grow’ I started again but this time with ‘what does everybody else grow?’
I focused my search by looking at what was available online. I was defeated by some seed companies who have the most amazing range but most offered around 10 to 40 different varieties.
So which are the tomato seeds it seems we most like to buy to grow for ourselves?
Out of 23 sites I found:
• Gardeners Delight on 16
• Shirley on 12
• Sungold on 12
• Alicante on 11
• Moneymaker on 11
It’s all in the name!
If the number of suppliers stocking a particular seeds is a good indicator of its popularity then Gardeners Delight must be the home gardener’s top tomato.
In a future post I’ll let you know which ones made it into my final line up.
Are there are any surprises on this list? Any omissions from the list that would be in your Top 5?
