Hi Sally,

Can you grow any of these smaller varieties indoors, or do you need to have a greenhouse/conservatory?

Hello – Good question! I was sure I had seen the word “windowsill” mentioned in a catalogue so I went back and found one in the Thompson and Morgan catalogue.
Venus – is described as ” harvest a lovely crop of flavoursome orange-skinned, cherry-sized tomatoes from this super-compact plant which will thrive on the windowsill or in a tub on the patio.

So I think the word to look for is “supercompact”.
The next one listed in the catalogue which looks quite small in the photo is Vilma which is described as compact is listed as being 50-60 cm tall. So presumably Venus will be smaller than that.

Hello, again. Just tuning in to let you know that Tumbling Tom Red is my favourite for baskets and that, in spite of previous postings, I have taken advantage of some uncharacteristic free time to sew both this and a freebie packet of Gardener’s Delight, so my friendly nursery is going to be out of pocket this year by a few quid. Seedlings and owner are making good progress.
P.s. I’m very interested in super compact. Thanks for this info.

OOOPS! ‘Sew’! Therein lies a tale (or a tail)!

Hello
Very pleased to hear that tomatoes and grower are all doing well! The plants in your baskets always look so prolific so are a great advert for Tumbling Tom Red – and I’m glad you’re growing Gardener’s Delight – it’s with some regret that I’m not… but if I grow it then that means one new variety less to try… but if you are then between us we shall have it all sewn up !!!!

As long as I’m not stitched up (literally – quite enough of that – or metaphorically!). This thread could run for some time (or thyme, which I’ve also got going as seedlings!). Have to be careful not to puncture myself when pricking out….. Think I’ve exhausted myself and the puns, so off for a thimbleful of something friendly. Crucial question: How many Tigerellas can you get on the head of a pin?
